Detroit has always had a heel in the fashion circuit, and creatives are on a mission to put Detroit on top of the map. In the last year, interest in Detroit has been rekindled by international brands like Gucci with their collaboration with Detroit Vs. Everybody, Hermès, Bottega Veneta, and more. When people think of Detroit, they don’t always think of its positive cultural experience. The art of Detroit and its contribution to the fashion industry is often overshadowed by uncultivated components of its history. Michigan Fashion Week aims to change the narrative by showcasing and developing its hidden gems. With so many stunning designers listed to showcase this year, Michigan Fashion Week is sure to do just that!

Michigan Fashion Week launched in 2012; out of a desire to highlight the growing industry of designers, artists, and models in Michigan. Following eight successful shows, reaching over 10,000 people each year, Michigan Fashion Week continues to showcase why Detroit has more to offer than a quick hit of novelty pieces. This year, Michigan Fashion Week is expected to celebrate its 10th anniversary in the most elaborate way possible!

The theme of the show is “It’s a Jungle Out There” which is a perfect theme to highlight the underlining beauty within Detroit city. I had the fortunate pleasure of talking with featured designer Kierra Wilson of @omgkeydabrand, about what we could expect from her collection this upcoming Fashion Week. She was excited to share her passion for her upcoming collection. “The theme this year is it’s a jungle out there, so, I decided to name my collection de-Twah (Day' Twa) which is the French pronunciation for Detroit. So, I wanted to basically embody everything when it comes to style, fashion, and culture within the city of Detroit and turn it into art,” Wilson stated.

“Our city has been viewed as dangerous; I want to take that danger and bring out the beauty in it.” “That’s where the heart is, and that’s what I’m going to bring De-Twah love,” Wilson expressed!

Michigan Fashion Week will take place Friday, June 10th, and will feature over 25+ brands. Get your early bird tickets now! https://www.michiganfashionweek.com/state-of-michigan-fashion-event
