10 Ways to Work on Yourself
Accepting who you are is hard. It’s hard to be ok with your flaws and insecurities. It’s hard to accept the quirks that make you who you are, but in reality, to fully be happy, it must be done. You must accept yourself for who you are. Some people are uncomfortable with the process of acceptance. Meaning, they’re afraid to challenge themselves at becoming their best version. Some people try but feel as if they never succeed. Meaning, they say “This year I’m changing this, this, and that,” but by the end of the year their same behaviors are ongoing. So why is it so hard to work on yourself?
The truth is it’s all about your mindset. You can do anything you set your mind on. Many people can challenge others to be the best, but the truth of the matter is if you never challenge yourself, you’ll never be the best. You can’t successfully grow and accept who you are if you still find flaws within. You must first become comfortable with the reflection you see before accepting the reflection you see.
Here are 10 ways you can work on yourself:
1. Acknowledge What Needs to Be Changed & What Doesn’t
Everyone has things they want to change about themselves. Many people find flaws in areas within themselves that make them uniquely them, which can be very mentally damaging. It’s important to acknowledge what you should change and what’s perfect the way it is. Being truly happy with yourself is going to first take the completion of this step.
2. Slow Down
You’ve probably been through a lot. Everyone has their own personal story, some harder than others. Life is full of ups and downs; there will always be a challenge for you to face, especially in today’s society. It’s okay to give yourself a break to think and refocus.
3. Exercise & Meditate
Working to better your physical, mental, and emotional health is a very good and rewarding thing. It keeps you busy, improves your health and it can also be a way to escape stressful situations. It’s important to take care of our bodies as we are only granted one.
4. Challenge Yourself
You are your own worst critic. It’s cliché, but it’s probably true. No one is as hard on you or thinks as harshly about you as you do. It’s okay to lighten up and not be so hard on yourself, and then, it’s okay to acknowledge the fact that you can do better. Becoming the best version of yourself isn’t based off of being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you were yesterday. Everyday you should challenge yourself to become better. Take Action!
5. Be Confident
Confidence is attractive. Let’s face it, when you see someone walk in the room with their head held high, you instantly are intrigued. Having confidence can also eliminate many fears or insecurities, by just having the motivation to believe and trust who you are and what you can do.
6. Get an Inspirational Room
Your environment sets the mood and tone for you. If you are living in an inspirational environment, you are going to be inspired every day. In the past, I lived in environments where my motivation couldn’t thrive. Now I’m creating a comfortable, creative office space where I can work and feel accomplished at the end of every work day.
7. Level Up
We hear this saying a lot, but what does it mean? It simply means grow. Gain experience so you can be better and stronger. As a blogger, I’m constantly leveling up my writing skills. As a business owner I’m always looking for ways to grow my business. Leveling up is the best way to see growth within yourself and what you do.
8. Get Feedback
As much as we try to improve, we will always have blind spots. Asking for feedback gives us an additional perspective. Although we love to go to friends or family it’s best to seek feedback from a mentor or acquaintance so there is no preset bias. Also, when we seek feedback from our close family and friends, we tend to become defensive and to truly grow, you must positively take feedback regardless of it being good or bad.
9. X Out the Negative Nacy’s
They say beware of the company you keep. This saying is true. It’s human nature for us to piggy back off others emotions. So, if someone around is constantly negative, telling you what you’re not going to accomplish, that’s a person you want to quickly remove from your circle. You should surround yourself around people who will encourage your growth. Don’t spend too much of your time around them if you feel they drag you down.
10. Be Happy
People always say that it’s ok to not be ok, but It’s also ok to know that you are ok. If you’re happy and healthy and you know it, probably because you’ve been working for it, own it. Be happy that you are happy and know that it is perfectly acceptable to be happy for, and with, yourself.
