What motivated & inspired you to start your business?

"In the midst of going through a personal metamorphosis I gained clarity on what I wanted, but also on what I did not want for my life. I want be a part of a journey or movement where women regardless of the roles they assume do not forget the most important part of the equation - themselves. As a domestic violence survivor, I began to take a self-inventory of my life and found there was a complete disconnect in allowing other entities in my life to have control. Through this I identified and began to pursue my passion which is helping women. This is how Golden Life Living was born."

What steps did you take to get your business started?

"In some ways I put the cart before the horse. I officially launched my business in November 2015. I am most grateful for technology today and the internet. I was able to do a lot of things online such as obtaining an employee identification number, opening a business checking and savings account. This year I attended coaching school to work towards earning my certified professional coach designation. More importantly, I decided to work on building my business and acquiring knowledge over a period of time, developing a five year plan which will afford me the ability to develop my business fully to achieve a full-time entrepreneur role."

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business?

"Currently, I am doing more farming activities...planting the seed(s), if you will. I utilize social media to spread inspiration which is the basis for Golden Life Living. There is the Golden Life Living with Charise podcast via BlogTalkRadio and available on iTunes and tunein. I have written a quick read e-book entitled Protect Your Crown: 5 Methods to P-U-R-G-E Your Mind."

How do you manage running a business & maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle?

"It is a juggling act. I am currently working full time in addition to building my own brand and business. It is important that I take out time for self-care, fun, date night, in addition to my other responsibilities. I believe that it is important for me to identify my values and allow that to be my guide. I value my relationship with my significant other; therefore, it is important that I carve out time to do things that nurture our relationship. I think it is key to be mindful too. I realized that I was placing so much emphasis on working that I was neglecting eating well and working out. I find these to be key in the caring of self."

What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

"The challenge I face is anxiousness. There are so many ideas and things I want to do with the company. I have to silence my mind and learn to appreciate the steps along the journey to the big picture. Essentially, I have to trust the journey and process...knowing that everything will work out in due time and at the right time."

What are some of your business habits that set you up for success every day?

"Planning and time management are key to balancing and prioritizing my day. Particularly, in balancing other priorities. This is a key component in not feeling overwhelmed or scattered."

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

"Do not give into fear - allow it to challenge you to expand beyond your comfort zone. Invest in yourself - Trust your gifts and talents - they are your own and given to you for a reason."

What motivated & inspired you to start your business?

"I began my own business because I always had a passion for beauty and fashion. After graduating from college finding a Job in the beauty industry in NYC was very difficult. With so much competition and A single mom I was forced to work a 9-5 however, I was extremely unhappy. Since I couldn’t find my dream job I decided to created it. We are all responsible for creating our own happiness. So I decided to take control of my life."

What steps did you take to get your business started?

"This has been a long Journey. Never the less it has been a rewarding one. Upon graduating from college I remember my uncle telling me that having a college degree was great but I should go and take up a trade because a trade would always help me if I ever found myself without a job. I took his advice and took up a cosmetology course. It was there that I feel in love with the art of makeup artistry. After completing my cosmetology course, I started working at a Non-Profit organization and doing side jobs as a makeup artist. Shortly after I ended up getting pregnant. After I had my son, the program that I was working with ended and I had to start looking for another job. I found a Job working at a real estate office in Manhattan but I ended up being let go after 2 weeks. It was then where the use of my trade kicked in. I started working with a very popular photographer and stylist that helped me get gigs but purchasing makeup took a toll on me financially. The more popular make up lines were so expensive and with me being a single mom I couldn’t afford to buy the most expensive brands and cheaper brands didn’t offer the quality of makeup I was looking for. It was then that Glam2Luxe Cosmetics was created."

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business?

"Social media, word of mouth and hosting events has been the most effective way that I’ve brought awareness to my brand. My products speak for itself. They are affordable and are of great quality! Once one person uses my product they fall in love and they begin to spread the word."

How do you manage running a business & maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle?

"Time management is everything. I plan my days in advance by writing down everything I need to do for the day."

What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

"I think that life has a way of taking us off track sometimes. Consistency is the key, so you have to learn to not bring your personal feelings and emotions into your business. You have you learn to not take things personal and stay out of your feelings."

What are some of your business habits that set you up for success every day?

"Every morning I thank God for waking me up. I read a psalms scripture and listen to something motivational, preferably a lecture by Oprah. I read a lot of self help books as well."

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

"Stay consistent!"
