Married mother of 8, Alisa Divine Zehnder has had many challenges from raising a family, building a business, to maintaining a positive mindset daily. So, how does the CEO of Alisa Divine Images, LLC manage it all? With a B.A. in Elementary Education, Alisa is over coming all her challenges as she uses her mindset as her key to success.

What motivated & inspired you to start your business?

“I didn't know I was starting a business initially. I wanted to take better photos of my children and I decided to invest in a DSLR, some photography books, and online tutorials. I shared the pictures I took of my kids and then people started asking me to photograph their kids.”

What steps did you take to get your business started?

“I filed a D.B.A. when my youngest child was 8 weeks old. She was actually sleeping through the night and I was staying up late reading books on lighting and shutter speed. I dove into the information at every spare moment and tried to learn as much as I could. I attended workshops to build a portfolio, and increase my photography skills.”

What has been the most effective way of raising the awareness of your business?

“Personally, I think the most effective way I've found to bring awareness to my business is through social media. You have to find the right platforms that fit you, choose a few, and focus on those rather than posting across the board.”

How do you manage running a business & maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle?

Managing a business and maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle can be challenging, especially for mothers. My husband and I have a blended family with 8 children, and we know what busy is. I believe it is important for mothers to take time to fill our tanks, to grow as individuals, develop our passions, and find purpose - in our family as well as outside of our family. In doing so, we inspire others to do the same, and we set an example for our children to do the same. Rather than attempting a daily balance, I like to think of the process as an ebb and flow. Where you weave in and out from work, to family, to time alone, to relationships, as they are needed - it's not a set formula.”

What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

“I've had many challenges as an adult from being a single mom, to relationships, to building a business, to maintaining a positive mindset daily. I believe that I overcame the challenges the same way every time. And that way is - when you know what you don't want, you are closer to knowing what you do want. Then you can focus on how to get to what you want. Whether that is asking for help, or building a team of supportive people, or reading a book, or getting professional advice. Ask for help to get to where you want to be.”

What are some of your business habits that set you up for success every day?

“Mindset for me is a key to success. I spend time daily, focusing on how and what I think about. I set an intention for what I want to do every day. I also think that putting the right people in your life that are a fit for you helps you to get to where you want to go. Grow a team of people in your life who support and encourage you.”

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

“My advice to entrepreneurs is to find what you are passionate about and build a business which reflects that. When you wake up every day excited for what you do, it doesn't feel like work. I love the quote by Howard Thurman, "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive".

What motivated & inspired you to start your business?

“I was motivated to start this business and our podcast network after engaging in an advocacy campaign for what was known at the 99ers - individuals seeking employment via no fault of their own, impacted by the economic crisis of 2007-2013. Starting with interviewing various career coaches and employment experts, we noticed that in order to discuss the policies around employment, our podcast had to engage with Politicians, Economic and Financial Experts and other advocates of Social Causes to effectively engage in constructive dialogue with our growing audience and listeners.”

What steps did you take to get your business started?

“Having experience with entrepreneurship type of businesses in the past, I knew the best way to begin a new idea was to study the marketplace. So, first, I listened to various podcasts to learn the best "tricks of the trade" to have an interesting and dynamic program in which great interviewees would seek to engage. It was important to protect our business name so filing a DBA ensuring our financial projections were in place was the next steps along with creating a mini-business plan.”

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business?

“First, Social Media -- and in particularity Facebook, Twitter and Google +. All three of these social media tools have been extremely helpful with finding an engaged audience interested in the topic manner we discuss along with listening to the dynamic interviewees on our show. Second, Word of Mouth - as new listeners find us via Social Media, Google Search or iTunes, Stitcher, Tune-In Radio or Blog Talk Radio - Podcast aggregation resources, they have informed others. Word of Mouth is truly one of the best ways to create an effective Good Vibes Buzz around a business. Third - Podcast Conferences like Podcast Movement, a conference we have attended at least twice in the past where we connect with others in the industry for best practices, to share ideas and gain important tips and tricks of the trade to improve our listeners experience.”

How do you manage running a business & maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle?

“The three card shuffle: Homelife, Worklife, Business Life. Each has an equal importance but in varying degrees. For instance, it is highly important to set aside dedicated time for one's home life and family. As without family and the relationships that are a result of this bonding with loved ones, no business can truly prosper."

"Work life fulfills two roles: To ensure income is maintained while the business is it growth stage - which is where Independent Underground Radio Network is currently, and extends by achievements obtained at work, is motivation for my own personal business. No business started or remains successful without employees dedicated its' goals. Equally, follow the path of success in my work-life into the Business Life.” "Business Life: As with a child, it is beyond exciting and heartfelt to watch it grow. Move into the proper next stages of our mini-business plan leading towards a full-feigned multi-platformed subject manner network. Ensuring the right interviewees, hosts, programs, and topics are discussed to continue and impactful engagement with our audience is of utmost importance, and each our hosts are committed to doing so.”
